Thanks for asking! Paddy McAloon is a recluse who hates playing live. Andy Partridge just hates playing live. Other than that, I don't see much similarity (beyond them both being musical genii, of course). But wait! You didn't ask about similarities, just what I thought of them. And now I've noticed you weren't asking me at all, you were asking Sean. Well, Sean, let's have it then...
Little known fact about McAloon: He doesn't care for artists that aparently sound like him. If you do care for artists that sound like him, you should check out the song 'I can not let you go' by Sondre Lerche. It's a tribute to songs on Steve McQueen in which he references (both musically and lyrically) Bonny, Appetite, Moving the River and Goodbye Lucille (other wise know as Johnny Johnny). It's an amusing homage.
Little known fact about Partridge: He released a 'best of' by Dublin band Pugwash called 'Giddy' on his Ape record label. If you listen to the first song 'Apples' it's pretty much a homage to 'Oranges & Lemons'-period XTC. And (I'm joining in the dots here) the last song Anchor has a very Llamas-esque instrumental break a la 'Track Goes By'.
There you go,
Adrian
